Differential Muscle Assessment and Applications Training

Hands-on training for physiotherapists

Differential Muscle Assessment and Applications

Muscle, joint or nerve?Pain in the same region can arise from different sources. Over two days, we learn muscle referred pain patterns, palpation and manual techniques for the muscles as part of clinical assessment.

About the training

Not every shoulder pain or low back complaint comes from the same source. This training focuses on systematically identifying the muscular source behind similar-looking presentations through history, observation and palpation, and on applying manual techniques to that muscle. Each muscle is covered in the same sequence:

Anatomy
Function
Typical history and findings
Injury mechanism and referred pain
Palpation
Manual techniques

By the end of the training

You will be able to:

  • compare a patient’s pain distribution with muscle referred pain patterns,
  • palpate specific muscles with appropriate positioning, pressure and tissue-barrier management,
  • combine history and observation with palpation to identify the target muscle,
  • apply manual techniques to the target muscle.

Practical information

  • Participants receive a training booklet.
  • Comfortable clothing is required; shorts are mandatory for the lumbar and lower-limb sessions.
  • A certificate of attendance is provided; under current regulations it does not confer any official authorisation or specialist qualification.
  • Coffee breaks are free; accommodation and meals are not included.
  • A deposit is taken once the minimum number of participants is reached; the balance is paid on the training day.
  • The venue is shared in the WhatsApp group after registration.
