About Me

Doç. Dr. Ata Elvan – fizyoterapist, akademisyen ve osteopat

I am Ata Elvan, a physiotherapist, osteopath and Associate Professor of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. I evaluate human movement using scientific methods and take an individualised, measurable and evidence-based approach to musculoskeletal health. Alongside my academic work, I provide theoretical and practical education for physiotherapists, students and other health professionals.

Education and Academic Career

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Hacettepe University Faculty of Health Sciences in 2010. I received my master’s and doctoral degrees in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation from Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Health Sciences in 2013 and 2017, respectively. I have also completed my education in osteopathy.

I currently work as a faculty member in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, at İzmir University of Economics.

At the university, I teach theoretical and practical courses including Foundations of Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Research Design and Biostatistics, Clinical Education, and Clinical Problem Solving in Physiotherapy. My teaching approach emphasises the integration of scientific knowledge with clinical practice and the development of students’ assessment, clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Areas of Expertise

My main academic and professional interests include:

  • Orthopaedic rehabilitation
  • Sports injuries
  • Osteopathic and manual approaches
  • Biomechanics and kinesiology
  • Human movement analysis
  • Posture, balance and fall risk
  • Plantar pressure assessment
  • Exercise and physical performance

My research incorporates objective assessment methods such as kinetic and kinematic analysis, plantar pressure measurement and wearable sensor technologies. I am actively involved in scientific research and research and development projects, with the aim of strengthening the connection between academic knowledge and clinical practice.

Professional Education and Training

I organise theoretical and practical professional education for physiotherapists, health professionals and students. My principal training areas include:

  • Fascial approaches
  • Differential muscle palpation

My aim is to make scientific knowledge clear, clinically relevant and readily transferable to practice. I want participants not only to learn practical techniques, but also to strengthen their palpation, assessment and clinical reasoning skills and their ability to select appropriate interventions.

My Approach

I see physiotherapy as more than the reduction of current symptoms. For me, an effective rehabilitation process should help people understand their bodies more clearly, improve their capacity for movement and maintain healthy movement habits over the long term.

You are welcome to contact me for further information about my academic work, professional education programmes or opportunities for collaboration.
